Getting Green for a healthy cause

It was a 'green day' for Windsor Secondary recently, when they launched thief Premaculture project.

This Joint initiative between Windsor Food and Tree for Africa and the Ladysmith depot, TOTAL are committed to uplifting the communities in which it operates. As a measure of its commitment to sustained development TOTAL South Africa agreed to support the project and the efforts to train the relevant people behind it.

Residents warned of bogus competition

Imagine receiving a sms, telling you that you have just won a Mercedes Benz E200 from a German International company situated in Kenya . All you need to do is pay R 3000 fro registration and the luxury vehicle in yours.

"I could not believe it! I have won something!I have never won anything in my life before," said a recipient of such an sms. However the joy of the "winner" was short lived after police warned that this could be possible scam.

The sms claims that after you have deposited the money, another sms will follow supplying information as to where the vehicle can be collected.

Security guards escape death

A case of reckless and negligent driving is being investigated by the Colenso Police, after three security guards were seriously injured, when their vehicle crashed into the Tugela River along the R103, on the morning of 11 February.

According to paramedics on the scene the man had been found completely under water, trapped in the vehicle.

Teenagar drowns at municipal pool

A Colenso teenager tragically lost his life, when he drowned in the local municipal pool on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency personnel worked tirelessly to try and save the young teenager's life, to no avail.

The tragedy came as no shock to emergency personnel at the scene, as this was the fourth incident reported to have occurred at the municipal pool over the past 3 months . since December 2008, 3 other incidents of this nature were reported.

Businessman pleads for help

A businessman has offered a R15 000 reward for the successful arrest and conviction, including the recovery of stolen goods, after his Altech Auto Page Cellular shop, situated in Francis Road had been burgled twice in two days.

"I’m on my knees and begging the community of Ladysmith to assist me in recovering stolen goods, which was taken from my shop," pleaded Vaughn, who might have no option but to close the doors to his business.

According to Vaughn the damages and goods stolen from his shop, has caused him to run at a serious loss. "On Saturday evening, goods to the value of R 85 000 was stolen and on Sunday evening, R 70 000 of which R 26 000 was recovered."

Drunken driver arrested in parking area

A 28 year old man was arrested by police at the Spar parking area, while under the influence of alcohol.

Motorists watched as police handcuffed the man . According to a witness the man, who had been driving under the influnce had almost knocked into a care.

Critically injured man airlifted to safety

Four people were tragically killed and two sustained serious injuries, when a head-on collision between two vehicles occurred last Friday mid- afternoon along the Elandslaagte route, about eight kilometers from the Elandslaagte Police Station.

According to paramedics on the scene one of the patients were airlifted by EMRS helicopter. It is alleged that the man had sustained serious internal injuries as well as sustaining injuries to his spine.

The route between Elandslaagte and Ladysmith had to be closed for almost three hours as emergency personnel attended to the injured. A doctor from Dundee also attended the collision.

Notorious Prophet arrested

"I would have beat them all, including the Mayor of Ladysmith, if they came in my way," said local self- proclaimed prophet and religious leader, Erica Maduna, of Watersmeet.

Maduna, who featured in The Ladysmith Herald last year, after predicting an earthquake was recently arrested by the local police, after he allegedly assaulted a municipal official at a recent gathering held at St Chad’s.

According to the police Maduna was denied access to the MEC, at which point he became verbally abusive and assaulted the municipal employee with a piece of blue wire, leaving a gaping wound to his head.
