Early Start to winter warmth

"We have decided to have our winter warmth launch a littler earlier this year , due to the extreme cold weather changes that Al- Imadaad Foundation have experience in the past few weeks," said Project Co-ordinator of AL-Imdaad Foundation, Abed Karrim, during the Kwa Zulu Natal winter warmth launch that was held in Intombi's Camp area.

Over 250 families had been identified by the help of Umbumbano project , which is currently assisting families in need in the area.

"With the help of AL-Imdaad Foundation, Albaraks Bank, Crescent of Hope, local Dawah Centre and the Mayor's office, we were able to assist families in great need for extra winter warmth," said Sandile Khumalo, who is the project manager of Umbumbano.

New recruits battle blaze

The eight newly appointed 'training' Public Safety officers were fitted and armed with fire fighting gear and were thrown into the deep end, when a house-fire was called in.

Afiery blaze had ripped through one of the small houses in the Steadville, J-section and needed immediate fire-fighting attention.

Under the watch-full eye of training fire-fighter Allan Du Plooy, from Rural metro,the boys and girls armed with fire-fighting equipment got to experience what i is like to extinguish a house fire.

A Little fun in the world of books

Agra Crescent Library celebrated World Book Day, which is 23 April, to complete the days celebrations MC Varman grade four pupils were invited to spend a little quality time at the library.

According to the Librarian, Gitna Suggoo a tour of the library by was given to the children. " An orientation on book education was given including a short course on how to retrieve information for school projects", said Suggoo.

Army Helicopter wreck found

It was further reported that two private boats of nearby locals assisted in the search and rescue for the wreck.

"The found the wreckage by using fish finders, " said one of the officials from the scene. The divers then deployed airbags around the wreckage to bring it closer to the surface. It was added that the wreckage laid 7.5m under the water. It is also feared that with the Woodstock measuring in some places at 40 meters deep, that the search for the bodies had become a difficult challenging mission.

Short lived retirement for sporting chair

Ladysmith resident, 62 year old, Mr Motala had a short lived retirement from the Meena Gazza Sporting Committee, after his announcement that he would be stepping down as the chairperson.

" I have been requested by local sponsors and some of the community members of Meena Gazza to return as the chairperson,"said Motala, during an interview with the Ladysmtih Herald.

Motala's decision to return to his rightful position on the committe came after sponors said that they would no longer be sponsoring the Meena Gazza Easter Sporting Festival to just run dry up after so much work had gone into building

Going the extra mile

RTI officers working along the N3 had to go the extra mile when they assisted children involved in a serious collision along the Van Reenen Route.

One of the RTI officers even took one of the children in her arms to comfort her, while paramedics from the overturned vehicle. According the police a Toyota Corolla and an Iveco Camper were travelling on N3 towards Durban.

Safety first on Freedom Day

Officers were keeping Freedom Day, a safe day for all road users in the Ezakheni area by working hand in hand with Ezakheni police station on road blocks in the area.

vehicles had been stopped and road worthiness was checked, including checking if the drivers had licenses , they were also scanned for outstanding warrants of arrests.

One of the vehicles that had been pulled over, during the roadblock that was held used another passengers foot to press down on the brake, as the handbrake of the vehicle was not working.

Multi million rand airport project for Ladysmith

Members of the ladysmith community recently gathered at the Royal Hotel after being invited to discuss the new multi million rand airport development that is earmarked for Ladysmith.

The Cape Town based company , Afzelia had already environmental consultants to research the environmental impact of the new development.
